Williamsburg is our favorite neighborhood in New York, and one that we have called home. Penny Hotel just happens to be in the perfect pocket—amongst hip bars, restaurants, and arguably Brooklyn’s best cafes, but on a quiet street. Created by Sydell Group (known for NoMad, Line, and Freehand hotels), and named after CEO and founder Andrew Zobler's pet chihuahua—it's similarly small yet full of spirit! The hotel was designed by NYC-based Stonehill Taylor, the architecture and design firm also known for working on TWA Hotel at JFK and Ace Hotel Brooklyn.
Rooms feature plush and colorful settees and armchairs, a selection of art books curated by The Strand, and a functioning kitchenette (which we love) complete with sink, mini-fridge & freezer, microwave, and Stagg EKG electric pour-over coffee kettle. Guests also have access to unlimited free filtered water. The team placed heavy importance on greenery and art, working with two local art therapy studios—showcasing artists with developmental disabilities.
One of the highlights of staying here is the rooftop restaurant & bar elNico, serving up delicious Mexican dishes and agave based cocktails. The view across Williamsburg and the NYC skyline at night time is not to be missed — #instagramable.
Complimentary bikes are available for guests and are a great way of exploring Brooklyn—down to Domino Park or Brooklyn Heights and beyond. There are fabulous shops and boutiques peppered throughout Brooklyn, but Williamsburg has some of the best, and all within walking and certainly riding distance.
Pets are welcome at Penny Williamsburg for free. There is a limit of two pets under 75 lbs. Guests with pets must sign a Pet Waiver and fees will be assessed if there are damages to the room.
