Located on the shores of Lake Como, in a town relatively undiscovered by tourists called Moltrasio, sits Passalacqua—a historic private villa that has been transformed into a 24 room 'home away from home'. Built in 1767 by Count Andrea Lucini-Passalacqua, on land once owned by Pope Innocent XI, the villa has hosted elite global leaders and artists for centuries. From Napoleon Bonaparte to Bellini and Winston Churchill. In 2018, the De Santis family (owners of the iconic Grand Hotel Tremezzo) aquired the property and invested much time and effort into it's restoration.
24 rooms and suites are scattered between the main Villa, Palazz, and Casa al Lago. Each space has been thoughtfully crafted by Valentina De Santis, and has a distinct design that flaunts the Italian baroque style whilst preserving original elements from the 18th century. Acquiring hand-blown Murano glass chandeliers from Venice's Barovier & Toso, traditional silk fabric from Fortuny, and hand-made mirrors from Barbini.
The restaurant, helmed by one of Italy's most celebrated chefs, Viviana Varese—Michelin-starred—now focusing on refined home cooking in Passalacqua's rustic open kitchen. The grounds include a clay tennis court, fitness center overlooking olive groves, organic vegetable garden, and a Turkish inspired spa with secret tunnel that leads out to the lake. There's also an outdoor pool overlooking Lake Como with upholstered loungers by La Double J.
