Ett Hem was a private residence built in 1910. The people who built it had a propensity for beauty, and they left their mark on this townhouse, situated in a peaceful, residential area of Stockholm.

Ett Hem, is Swedish for ‘a home’, it opened its doors in 2012 following a meticulous conversion from a private Arts and Crafts residence in Larkstaden, Stockholm. They have since expanded, taking on a further two neighboring townhouses, adding additional guest rooms, casual indoor / outdoor seating and garden spaces, private living spaces, another generous kitchen, and three short-stay residences, each with private entrances.

An incredibly inviting boutique hotel that aims to make visitors feel as house guests—gaining access means to ring the bell at a gate rather than to walk into a lobby. An open plan kitchen with a large communal table, features a house chef that prepares food with an anytime, anywhere ethos. Guests can even wander into the kitchen and chat to the chef as they cook dinner. As founder, Jeanette Mix explains, “there is no back of house, we show everything that we do”. A cookie jar in the kitchen, bar in the living room, puzzles on the shelf, and push-bikes in the courtyard—small but essential details to create the desired atmosphere. Breakfast is always good at Swedish hotels—it’s one of the things they do best, the buffet here is no exception— it really is excellent. For lunch or dinner, the chef will whip something up for you from scratch.
